I chose to use the commercial ad entitled "Silence of Love". Please watch the video first and then post what you think about it.
I believe that this ad stirs the emotions of compassion, empathy, regret, fear, guilt, and protectiveness.
The ad is spoken in Thai but has English subtitles. This brings out the emotion of compassion because it opens your mind to the forgotten fact that there is another part of the world, and not just the west side that we live on that speaks English. It allows you to think about how people have problems all over the world, and how your's can be quite minor in comparison.
Many of the pictures that the ad had were sad and depressing. This can bring out the emotion of empathy because studies shown from http://curiosity.discovery.com states that over 121 million people worldwide suffer from some form of depression. Many people would know the message that the actors were trying to portray and feel just like the people in the commercial.
The end of the ad was by far the saddest and it portrayed the feeling of regret because the person who loved and cared for the girl with all of their heart sacrificed their life to save her. This definitely brought out regret because during their time together, they had arguments and never saw each other eye to eye or met each other half way, and now any chance they had of spending time together is now gone forever.
This ad brought an emotion of fear because you do not want your family going through something like this. Between one of your family members being a deaf-mute and the other attempting suicide, which one is scarier? Both the father and daughter went through a lot of stress without anyone there to help them. Wouldn't you want someone to lean on?
The ad also brought out an emotion of guilt because it makes you reflect on how much time you have spent with your family. If you seldom visit your family you now feel guilty of the fact that life can end so easily, and are now inclined to spend time with them.
Finally, this commercial expressed the emotion of protectiveness because it was a health insurance ad that had the message of protecting your family before something happens. It sends a direct message to people who don't have life insurance to get some immediately.

Well, I came here for a 'ray of sunshine' but this has to be one of the most heart-wrenching ads I have ever seen. I haven't even read what you wrote about it yet... I'm all teary and blurry.
ReplyDeleteYes I do agree that my first title was very ironic and that is why I have changed it to a more accurate meaning. Thank you for noticing my fluke!
DeleteThis is so touching! I'm just a little disappointed that it was an insurance advertisement. This triggered several emotions. I nearly cried but I'm too tough for that :P
ReplyDeleteI know this video was far too extreme to be an insurance ad!! Of course we know that you're tough Naomi!
DeleteThis ad is by far the SADDEST ad I've seen in my life :'( it's so emotional and touching even though there are no words. Honestly the first time I watched the ad no words came to mind, however the second time through it was clear that hearts were broken including mine :( ...hi
ReplyDeleteI agree I find it so amazing how many emotion can be felt and put across without uttering a single word. It was quite shocking and emotional!
DeleteThis ad definitely arouses the feelings of sadness. I thought that this ad was the saddest video I have EVER seen. The fact that her father died for her was touching but to know that she didn't even like her father was heartbreaking. To me, I think that even if you have a disability you can still have feelings and be just as normal as everyone else.
ReplyDeleteI believe that she did love her father, but just took him for granted like all teenagers do from time to time. It was very sad though that although they never saw eye to eye he still loved her with all of his heart and without thought was willing to sacrifice his life for her's
DeleteThis commercial was really sad and the worst part was that she showed no love towards her father and he died saving her life that she took away on purpose.
